In 1998 he graduated with honors from the medical faculty of the Yaroslavl State Medical Academy. Graduate of residency and postgraduate studies in the specialty "Cardiology". In 2001 he defended his Ph.D., in 2011 - his doctoral dissertation. Since 2006 - Associate Professor of the Department of Therapy. In 2016, he was elected by competition to the position of head of the Department of Therapy named after Professor E.N. Dormidontov. He worked as Deputy Dean (2007) and Dean of the Faculty of Highly Qualified Personnel Training (2011). Since 2022 - Vice-Rector for Medical Work and Regional Health Development.

Author of more than 130 scientific papers, 3 monographs, 6 educational and teaching aids, 4 patents for inventions. Under the leadership of M.V. Ilyin defended three candidate and one doctoral dissertations.

A cardiologist of the highest qualification category, works in the Department of Cardiac Surgery of the Yaroslavl Regional Clinical Hospital. He is a member of the Russian Society of Cardiology, the Russian Scientific Medical Society of Therapists. Participates in the work of the Public Chamber of the city of Yaroslavl.

Awarded with the Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (2014). In 2019, he was awarded the badge "Excellent Health Worker".
